I went up to Blacksburg tonight for the candlelight vigil marking the one year anniversary of the tragedy. Obviously, this year it had a different feel to it than last year. It was really nice to be on campus and share that time with our Hokie friends, young and old.
The ceremony included the reading of the names of the 32 victims, a beautiful song, a moment of silence, the playing of taps (which gets me every time) and finally the spirited yelling of “Let’s Go Hokies” and the singing of “Old Hokie.” It was sad of course, but nothing compared to last year. There was a more overwhelming sense of peace this year. Also, it was remarkable how beautiful of a night it was.
