The end of time?

March 14, 2008

I talked to my brother tonight and he told me to check out 12-21-12. So, I have been reading about it tonight and here’s the basic idea…

There’s a bunch of talk about December 21, 2012 being the end of the world, an apocalypse of sorts. Other people say that we will enter a new era where massive change will occur.

  1. December 21, 2012 is the last day listed on the Mayan calendar. Historically, this calendar, which was created thousands of years ago, has been very accurate according to scientists and astronomers.
  2. In 2012, the sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in about 26,000 years. There is supposed to be an extremely close conjunction of the winter solstice sun with the crossing point of the galactic equator (equator of the Milky Way) and path of the sun.
  3. Also, a polar shift (the reversal of the north and south poles) is predicted for any time now and takes a period of around 5000 years to happen. The last reversal happened 780,000 years ago.

Nah, I don’t believe in the doomsday talk, but it is kind of interesting.
