Virginia

Sunflower Fields

August 26, 2016

A few weekends ago, we drove up to Philadelphia to visit family. We have been on road trips with the kids before, but never during potty training and in the underwear stage. We saw every bathroom from Virginia to Pennsylvania and I was peed on countless times. We had many clothing changes and well, it was something. Our 5-6 hour trip turned into 11 hours due to many potty breaks, ridiculous traffic and a lovely 40-minute stop at the sunflower fields in Haymarket, Virginia at Burnside Farms.

We went to Haymarket in the spring for the tulip festival. When I realized this was right on  our route, I knew we had to stop. But, since it was unplanned, we were there at like 3:00 in the afternoon. It was around 100 degrees that day and absolutely miserable.  So, while we enjoyed the sunflowers, we were all roasting and we didn’t stay long. I recommend going first thing in the morning if you go.

Seeing sunflowers as far as you can see is just so beautiful. On this day, it was beautiful for a few minutes and then suddenly nothing mattered but finding some shade and water because I thought I might drop from the heat.

Fall is a much better time and we’re hoping to visit a friend’s farm locally this fall to see them again.
