Gallery Wall & DIY Picture Ledges

June 8, 2011

I’m so happy.  My picture ledge gallery wall is finally done!  And, that makes my living room almost done, too.  I love the idea of this style of gallery wall because I get to display my photography and I can easily switch it out and rearrange the frames accordingly, so I don’t get stuck with anything.

I found some picture ledges at West Elm and Pottery Barn that I liked, but they were too expensive and not long enough.  Only 4′ and I was looking for 5′ because I have a huge wall I was trying to fill.  So, I asked my dad, the master carpenter, for help and he built me exactly what I wanted and we saved tons of money.  Huge thanks to my dad!   They came out great and were exactly what I wanted.  Even the stain was perfect.  I used Sherwin Williams ‘Walnut Wainscot‘ stain.

I told my Dad he could put Pottery Barn to shame, so if anyone would like to buy some custom shelves, he might have a new business.  =)

As for the pictures, if you’re looking for a good place for prints, I highly recommend Nations Photo Lab.  The advantages are that they print all kinds of weird sizes and they are cheaper than the normal places, like snapfish, Kodak & Shutterfly.  However, you have to download this software and it’s not the most user friendly.  But, I am so happy I found them.  They ship really quickly, too.

I hope to post pictures of the entire living room soon.
