Food review: Corner Bar & Grill

December 3, 2008

I went to the new Corner Bar & Grill on the corner of College and Main in Salem today with a friend from work.  It’s like 5 steps from our office, so it’s a must try.  It doesn’t seem to be a lucky location because many restaurants have come and gone from that little corner.

It’s a tiny little place with a bar and 3 or 4 tables.  (It might have a few seats up on The Texas Tavern – ha!) I had the meatloaf sandwich (meatloaf, cheddar, bbq sauce on sourdough) and the onion rings.  Everything was really tasty, probably not too healthy and it came out fairly quick.  My friend had the cheeseburger and fries and it looked really good, too.

My only complaint (and, I usually have them) was that it was NOT non-smoking.  Hello?  What?  The place is too tiny to allow smoking, AND this is 2008!  Get with the clean air program, people.

In summary, I highly recommend that my fellow Roanoke College colleagues give this place a try.  It would be great for take-out too.

See this article recently written about the place.
