Today is our 12th anniversary. I married my best friend exactly twelve years ago, one month after graduating from Virginia Tech.
Marrying Erick is the best thing I’ve ever done in my life and I’m so thankful for him.
We’re not exchanging gifts this year or going on a trip (sadly), but instead we are trying to create a new little life this year on our anniversary. It kind of just feels like we’re paying doctor bills for our anniversary, but we’re trying to keep our eye on the prize and remain hopeful now.
We met 14 years ago while I was an exchange student at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan. I had only been there for a few days and my new girlfriends asked me to come to the beach with them on a Sunday. So, we were a bunch of girls at Condado Beach and along comes this group of guys. Erick’s brother, Pedro, was trying to impress us by getting Erick to do tricks on his skimboard in front of us. It worked because my friends starting talking to these guys and eventually I started talking to Erick. For a long time, like two hours. He loved speaking in English — he learned from watching movies. He asked me out and we went out that night and the rest is history. I was 18 and he was 24 and I was really worried about how Mom and Dad would take it, but after talking to him and meeting him, they loved him.

Happy Anniversary, sweetheart! I love you so much!
I sure wish we were in Greece again.
